Children are to be awed and envied for playing games that include "do-overs"-- a special escape clause saved for the moment when something goes terribly wrong. For them it could be a car coming, a ball stuck under a fence, or any unplanned interruption.

It's too bad as grown ups we can't have our own escape clause--from a past too painful, a future too fearful, a present too pressure-packed.
